Quantitative and Qualitative Data Collection and Analysis Workshop Equips TESL Students
The Language Department of Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sultan Abdul Halim, Sungai Petani, recently hosted a comprehensive workshop on "Quantitative and Qualitative Data Collection and Analysis" for its PISMP TESL 2021/2025 students. The event, coordinated by Dr. Satirah binti Ahmad, took place on April 14, 2024, at Dewan Bukhari from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The workshop aimed to provide participants with invaluable insights and practical skills in conducting research, specifically to support their TSLB3143 Fundamentals of Research in Education course. The focus was on both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis techniques.
The event featured two esteemed speakers, Dr. Mohd Fairuz bin Jaafar and Dr. Muhammad Noor bin Abdul Aziz, both accomplished lecturers at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Dr. Mohd Fairuz bin Abu Bakar covered the quantitative aspect, guiding students through the intricacies of statistical analysis and data interpretation. Meanwhile, Dr. Muhammad Noor bin Abdul Aziz delved into qualitative research methods, exploring themes, coding, and the rich narratives that emerge from such studies.
A total of 53 TESL PISMP 2021/2025 students actively participated in the workshop, gaining valuable insights and hands-on experience in research methodologies. The interactive sessions allowed participants to engage with the speakers, ask questions, and clarify doubts, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
The workshop provided students with a comprehensive understanding of research design, data collection methods, and analytical techniques, equipping them with the necessary tools to successfully complete their Fundamentals of Research in Education course and conduct rigorous and meaningful research in their respective fields.
