On Saturday 4 November 2023, our 3rd year student, Wong Annie represented the Language Department's Japanese Language Circle, IPGKSAH in the 43rd Japanese Language Speech Contest held in USM. The event was organized by USM's School of Languages, Literacies and Translation and participation was opened to the northern region mainly the states of Kelantan, Kedah, Penang and Perlis.

All contestants were subjected to a Q&A session after their speech by native speakers of Japanese; the esteemed judges ranging from Japanese Schools' Principals, the Chief Lecturer of the Japanese Language Department from Japan Foundation KL (JFKL), the Director of Kyoto University of Foreign Studies in USM (KUFS-USM), Mr Soeda Masatoshi, the President of Penang Japanese Association, Mr Tsuchibashi Akito and the Deputy Consul-General from the Consulate General of Japan in Penang, Mr Kuroe Kosuke.

Ms Wong Annie won the consolation prize for her speech on her favourite food, Lei Cha. Congratulations.
